Ms. Shafer is an associate at Adams Silva & McNally LLP. Ms. Shafer focuses her practice on a wide variety of legal issues facing school districts, including special education, labor and employment, student discipline issues, and governance.
Ms. Shafer first began practicing education law in 2009. Her experience includes representing school districts in special education and civil rights related matters, as well as working as in-house counsel for a large Southern California school district for several years.
Ms. Shafer earned her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, with a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. As an undergraduate, she taught organic chemistry for an organization focused on increasing the success of women, underrepresented minorities and low-income students in the sciences. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a research scientist and taught science in public high schools. Her work as a scientist was published in the prestigious scientific journal, Nature. She earned her law degree from the University of Southern California in 2007. While in law school, she was published in the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice and received a grant from the public interest law foundation for her work representing victims of domestic violence.
